project 3
STEAL THIS BOOK
IN THIS WORK: I designed a short magazine composed entirely from unoriginal materials. Using text and illustrations from my favorite book ("Alice in Wonderland" by Lewis Carroll), I manipulated each element using Photoshop and Illustrator and put them together in InDesign. The front and back covers are simple linework designs extracted from the original illustrations which are meant to resemble the back sides of a deck of cards; inside, I used various elements such as curved and jumbled text of varying sizes and pops of red on mainly black-and-white spreads to replicate the aesthetic and charm of Alice's adventures down the rabbit hole. I also printed each page out and bound them into a book with red plastic string (another nod to the theme of subtle red and the antique mood of the story).
PROCESSES
1. Various iterations of type arrangements for spreads 1 and 3 in Illustrator. On the left, I set the text along a path which I first freehanded and then manipulated using path anchors; on the right, I arranged the letters myself in what I imagined to be the path down a rabbit hole, and I played with the thickness of the font. 2-3. Images I took from Sir Tenniel's original illustrations for "Alice"; I cut each one out and masked a few of them with white layers in order to create line drawings.
